About Rainforest & Rainforest Margin Birds
All birds on this page were photographed within rainforest habitat or at the margin with other habitats. While a few species are considered as exclusive rainforest inhabitants, most are also likely to be encountered in a variety of other habitats including wet and dry sclerophyll forest, mangroves and well vegetated urban areas.Observing and photographing birds in dense low lit forests can be a frustrating business, calls and fleeting movements are the norm. A strategy of patience, camouflage and allowing birds to come to you can be rewarding. Knowledge of daily bird activity times and of food plants flowering or fruiting in the area will greatly increase sightings. Early morning and evening are not the only activity times.
Rainforest spans an altitude gradient from the coast to in excess of 1000 metres. Some species are confined to high or lower altitudes, however seasonal movements of several hundred metres occurs with many species.
